I expect that all the people who have friended you have been suffering from drasticallly reduced LiveJournal posts on their Friends Pages. Of course we've missed you, silly!

Try camping when your bag gets soaked with rain on the first day, so your sleeping bag & clothes are all drenched :/ Hotels do have their advantages *g*

Welcome back!

I had to look up force 8 winds, as we don't use that over here in the US (at least, I've never heard it referenced on the newscasts). Very cool.

8     39-46 mph     Fresh Gale
Over water: Moderately high waves with breaking crests forming spindrift. Streaks of foam.
Over land: Twigs broken from trees. Cars veer on road.

Eeep!

Yeah, well, that's what you get for sitting around the campfire, eating franks & beans. Didn't you ever see Blazing Saddles ???

Dude. Of course we missed you! Ok, some of us were stuck in bed most of the week with a chest infection and could have done with your wit and sense of humour, but we *may* forgive you.

Camping isn't fun without weather warnings and flooding/high winds, snow, very wet micro climate... (Yes, I've had all of those.. while in the .uk too!)

Camping in high winds not advisable, there's a photo on my bro's photostream of the five man tent(as it happened, five girls were in that tent)on their last kayaking expedition pancake stylee, and the five damp and bedraggled refugees in the volvo. Bro's tent did not collapse, being an army guy, it's a point of honour. I'm sure I've told everyone of H's D of E expedition when they had to be rescued from flash floods by the fire brigade. Hers was the only pack that still had a dry sleeping bag and change of clothes. Point of honour for me, being army guy's sister, expert pack packer and reluctant outdoorswoman. If it's not raining, it's not training, as they say in the army.

Way back before I married Thingy, I was a Scout Leader. We had one camp on the side of a 1 in 4 hill that attracted the biggest downpour in over 50 years and washed away some of the contents of the Scout tents, despite having dug them in for protection. I'd put double groundsheeting in under and awoke to a river of water running under it. There were only two 'dry' tents and we had to go hunting for one scout who had slept through it all and thought she had wet her bed when we woke her!

I have also camped on the beach (which it seems you are not permitted to do now) in the middle of the New Forest (which you are not permitted(and would not be safe) to do away from the designated sites now :-( we used to just take our bikes, a protective sheet of plastic and a haversack and go where we liked as kids) and on the top of the Ridgeway (in February under 6 images of snow).

But, yeah, it's been somewhat quiet here without you! Welcome back!
