Saffy on Skye, originally uploaded by dakegra.

Saffy, the waggiest dog in the world, has gone to the great doggie playground in the beyond.

She was fifteen, ish. Which is... erm, lots, in doggy years.

Feels weird not to have a hound in the family. Yes, she was K's parents' dog, but she was definitely part of the family.

In other news, they're getting a puppy. As soon as the breeders have one - she'd be Saffy's grand-neice, or something.

One of the Beans (I'm not sure which) asked Grandma if they were getting a puppy 'so it'd last longer than Saffy'.

Kids, eh?

My condolences. And such a soulful portrait. But Saffy must have been thirty-five, forty feet tall, judging by the little guy standing next to the gate.

Awww, a beautiful dog. I don't know what we'll do when our Blixa goes. Even thought he annoys me sometimes by dragging me across the pavement on my knees, I still can't imagine life without him.

Great photo :)

It's so sad when one loses an old friend, I hope you pick a breed that is long lived like a Fox Terrier for example. *hugs*

Sympathies to K's parents and to the rest of you. With pets as with people, the "They've had a good life" argument never really stops you feeling it when it's one of your own.

Or a cat. They do quite well

They had a cat who made it to 17 or 18. They're definitely more dog people though.

Current plan is to get another labrador. The Beans are quite excited at the prospect of havin a puppy, even if it is one by proxy.

It was weird going round there for tea yesterday - none of us wanted to sit on Saffy's sofa. She'll be much missed by all - even the girls at the Vet adored Saff, and I'm sure we got extra-special treatment when we took our guinea pig in purely because we were related. :-)

indeed, though she was having trouble walking by the end and spent most of the time snoozing on the sofa. Last week her back legs went completely and the drugs just weren't working.

no, you're quite right. I'll miss scritching her belly and having her lick my feet when I go over. There's nothing quite like having your toes licked by a labrador, though I understand that I'm possibly in the minority in that regard. :-)

ta. They're definitely more labrador people though. Maybe this time they'll get a chocolate one. :-)

She was adored by all who met her. Still is, for that matter.
