first days

dakegraFirst day at my new job today. If you follow me on twitter, you'll have gathered that all didn't go *quite* to plan.
Due to start at 10am, I was up early to get the kids ready for school. We checked the local radio for school closures, and the council website, but they both appeared to be open, so I checked the train website before I set off, and all was running fine. Dropped LB off at school, got to the station at 08.15 for the 08.22 train.
There was an announcement saying it was delayed.
I really should have taken this as a warning - usually they say how much it's delayed. Snow had started falling pretty heavily by this point.
At 08.45 they then started announcing the 08.53 was delayed too. By 9am someone phoned the train operator, who said that the 08.22 was still in Doncaster and we'd be lucky to see a train there before twenty to ten...
I decided to scarper for the bus, which arrived in short order, and with a quick apologetic call to my new employer I arrived at about 10.30am.
Chris the training guy met me and promptly sorted me out with a nice hot mug of tea, then I filled in a couple of forms and he took me up to meet my team.
Who were all in $new_boss's office, discussing whether they were going to close the Leeds office for the day!
Which they did. So I got some paperwork to read, nabbed a couple of books on website usability testing, and headed off home. I was there for a grand total of 45 minutes, I reckon!
New boss and new team leader both seem very lovely and friendly, and signed me up for the team christmas lunch. Possible that the office will also be closed tomorrow (yay!) and we might be going to Nottingham on friday for my first project meeting with $client.
It just *feels* like a better place to be than my previous job.
And I bumped into Peer Lawther, who I sort of know from Leeds Flickr and Twitter, which was nice. He sits just over from me.
Or will do, when I eventually start!
