As it's christmas, we've been listening to a lot of anonymous_greg's fabulous christmas mix CD. It's eclectic but wonderful, and has put me in mind of making one myself.


I'm quite fond of the Rat Pack christmas tunes, but think I'll include some other weird & wonderful things, but I'm also open to suggestions

Check out 'Christmas in Paradise' by Mary Gauthier - I heard it on Bob Harris Country last week, when he named it as his favourite Christmas song.

I love the Beach Boys' 'Little Saint Nick' and Chuck Berry's 'Run Run Rudolph'. And, er, Adam Faith's 'Lonely Pup (In A Christmas Shop)', which makes me cry.

Not at all weird or obscure, but deeply wonderful, my favourite ever Xmas tune is the same as it's been since I was about 6: Merry Xmas Everybody by Slade. It ain't Christmas till Noddy says it is !

Accept no substitutions ! It must be Slade.

Since I like my melodies joyful and my lyrics cynical, I normally include "Fairytale of New York" (Kirsty and the Pogues, accept no cheap imitations) and Greg Lake's "I believe in Father Christmas". I'll also throw in The Pretenders' "2000 Miles" and Jethro Tull's "Another Christmas Song". Plus some folky stuff like Steeleye Span's version of Gaudete and the truly wonderful "A Latin Latin Christmas" by Maddy Prior and the Carnival Band.
