"As a reader, I insist on being beguiled early or not at all, which is why a lot of the books on my shelf remain mysteriously unread after page twenty. But once I submit to the author's thrall, he can do me no wrong."

--John le Carre, from his introduction to The New Annotated Sherlock Holmes, edited by Leslie S. Klinger

Gorgeous book, got it but not managed to read it all yet due to the size/weight being a problem while travelling or in bed.

it looks jolly lovely but rather huge*

And I'm not sure I could justify it given that I've got the complete Holmes for free on my kindle app for my phone**

** which I suppose the actress could have said to the same bishop, but to considerably less smutty and/or comedic effect

It's a big set, but (IMHO) justifiable for Klinger's annotations, which are based on "The Game" of Sherlockian criticism, rather than straight literary criticism. And the matched spines look great on a shelf. But they're heavy as hell. I may need to invest in a book stand.
