An average of £64,000 debt seems excessive...

Unless that includes mortgage - which is different...

I've checked, and it does include mortgages. Which makes the figure slightly better, but there's still a lot of unsecured debt out there. I'll try and find out the number excluding mortgages.

Yeah - if I had the ammount I've got left on my morgage as "debt" I'd consider myself really really f*cked. But while it's on the house - shrug - I consider my self "debt free"...... So it's a very different sort of debt.

Don't get me wrong - you can be buggered sideways via your morgage just as much as anything else. Especially if your unemployed and your morgage is not being covered - that way lies badness.....

As has happened to a friend recently. They had paid all their mortgage cover premiums, but when made redundant they were told they weren't covered because they were on a disability related benefit and not seeking work (even though they are).

on the other hand (silver lining and all that), it's a lot of stressed people who we're helping to find a way out of their problems.

Depressingly (cloud) we reckon only 1 in 6 people with debt problems contacts us...
