So yes, I'm doing NaNoWriMo again this year.

This year, however, I have A Plan.

Every year I've tried, I've given up after about a week. Every year I've had an inkling for a story, but nothing more. This year, I plan to have an outline of the plot, a fairly good idea of who the characters are and what they're doing.

I've just been playing with the name generator on the NaNo Trial version of Scrivener for Windows.

It's pretty good, but I'm not coming up with anything that strikes my fancy.

I need character names for two people and two... not people

Sci-fi setting, bounty hunter transporting criminal back to earth to collect the bounty. Things go Awry, the ship's AI turns out to be ex-military and has reverted to a stroppy teenager who tries to kill everyone. Hijinks ensue.

1. Main protagonist - Bounty hunter. Female, feisty, no-nonsense.
2. Criminal - ship's captain, crafty, cunning, etc
3. Transport ship
4. AI on transport ship - needs a female name.

Suggestions, if you'd be so kind.

How about Chimera as a name for the transport ship? Short, classical and with the underlying implication that its parts are of widely varying origin?

I briefly wondered if the AI might be a Long-haul Vehicle Robotics & Instrumentation Agent, or (E)LVIRA, a name to give an artificial intelligence a goth complex if ever there was one...

I'll have a think! But I'm glad you're going for it again, with more of a Plan. I considered it this year (ftb Roman lion-men) but I'm away for 4 days right at the start of the month, so I'd be running to catch up from the off.

The Chimera it is, many thanks for that. The AI has become Alice, but I've yet to work out the acronym for her...
