There's nothing wrong with a good action movie - though I don'tknow whether Die Hard 4 is a good action movie, or a silly but enjoyable one.
I was a little irritated by that Top 50 Disaster Movies on telly the other night, as most of them listed (including Die Hard, as #1, I think) were action movies, not disaster movies.
Surely a movie isn't a disaster movie unless lots of people, including a few stars, as well as extras, die. How many people die in Die Hard ? A dozen ? And most of them are either bad guys or FBI/solders. A distaster movie kills dozens, if not hundreds of civilians.
I was also a bit peeved by the way they discussed 'The Poseiden Adventure' and the characters, without ever once mentioning that the movie was based on a wonderful and harder-hitting novel by Paul Gallico. I like the movie, but the book is even better.
Oh, and I couldn't resist buying 'Disaster - the do-it-yourself catastophe game' from ebay last year. A board game based on planes crashing, earthquakes, ships sinking and buildings catching on fire. Pure 70's genius, it is.
