I've been hearing a lot about The Wire recently. The imminent start of season 5 seems to be all over the papers, tv, internets, yet this is the first time it's really cropped up on my radar.

Anyone out there seen it? Is it any good? One would assume so, given its pedigree (David Simon, creator of the excellent Homicide)

"The Wire" is, by nature of its scope and subjects, and so well done, it is not really comparable to any series I can readily think of....However, some other series that I have enjoyed greatly are: "Foyle's War", "Prime Suspect", "Island at War" and numerous others all aired on Masterpiece Theater or Mystery on PBS :-)
