The Dark Knight



Holy villains, Batman! That was a movie and a half. Literally. Heath Ledger was absolutely mesmerising as Joker. Aaron Eckhart was great as Harvey Dent. Gary Oldman and Michael Caine were ace, as always. Christian Bale could do with some throat sweets from all the THROATY GROWLING he was doing (seriously, enough). Morgan Freeman was hilarious in the scene were he asked the geek accountant dude if he *really* wanted to try blackmailing Bruce Wayne.

Overall though, it was Ledger's film. He stole every scene he was in. The pencil scene at the start was an awesome introduction to the character, and I loved his total lack of morals or interest in anything other than chaos, mayhem and blowing shit up.

And they totally stole my idea for a Monty scene! With the balloon and skyhook thingy! LOL.



end result: GO SEE IT, if you haven't already. I'm going again, probably this weekend while K and the Beans are away in London.

I give it TEN gleaming batarangs out of ten.

Ok, so to be UBER critical - I didn't like the 'girl' - whatever her name is - yes, I'm being disrespectful on purpose because she was BORING, boring, boring.

I think there could have been so much delicious achy angst with her character and the dilema between her love for Harvey and Wayne but when she died? I was....meh. Didn't care. In comparison to Gwenyth's character in Ironman - probably the same amount of screen time and scripting and for whatever reason, she was able to make me CARE about the love interest relationship.

So the romantic girly part of me was pissed that she didn't do a good job of making me romantically ache. ;)

She's cute, but you're quite right, there wasn't really the emotional bond between either her and Harvey, or her and Bats.

I was more WOAH just at the audacity. And, yeah, it definitely set the stage for the character.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Heath Ledger was F'ING AWESOME!

it was incredibly evocative as a character set-up. Fifteen seconds into the room and you know the guy's a fcking nutter.

Heath's Joker is unsurpassable - I know that the character made it to the end of the film, but I pity the actor who would dare step into Heath's place.

So I'm curious; is it hard for you to follow dialog in movies where the actors have American accents? 'Cause I have that problem with British accents sometimes. :)

not usually. That said, we're fairly well soaked in US tv and movies.

That's not to say there aren't moments when someone has a really thick accent, but generally we can follow. Might miss some of the colloquialisms or references, but now I know what a Twinky is. :-)


anything in particular you've had problems with? I can imagine that some of our local dialects could be tricky.

The one that comes to mind is Sandbaggers. caladri is a big fan, but I can't understand a word of it. :) She watches some other more modern spy series whose name I forget, which is also difficult for me.

On the other hand, often I don't have any trouble at all. I'm not sure if there are some accents that are harder for me than others, or if it relates to other factors like how unexpected the dialog is, or how slowly people speak or whether I can read lips during it. :) I would expect that most British movies are done with a standardized accent, like America's "broadcast english," which is an Iowa accent, but it's one almost every American can follow.

I always worry meeting Brit friends that I won't understand them. That seems like a terribly "self-centered American" thing to have happen! I worry about it a lot.
