space marine - macro, originally uploaded by dakegra.

Ok, ok, it's not really a 'macro', per se. 50mm lens atop tripod, as close as I could get it and still focus.

I spotted this little guy atop some shelving and really liked the lighting.

This was the first of the Games Workshop Space Marines miniatures I ever painted, probably 20 years ago. He's lasted pretty well!

I did some Chaos Space Marines, then some Dark Eldar and drew the line. Dark Eldar have huge cod-pieces which really made me queasy having to get so close.

I still have all of my games workshop stuff. Dug it out of the loft 4 or 5 years ago to let my nephew paint some as I still had plenty unpainted.

I have a friend who still paints em as his primary hobby. Thats not sad for a 35 yr old is it??? He claims he doesn't play the games anymore, but I don't believe him :-) I have this vision of him standing around a table in the gamesworkshop store arguing with 3 lads half his size, but dressed exactly the same :-)

Not sad at all. I think its a common misconception about Warhammer. The clubs in London(Charing Cross and Clapham) do not allow under 18's for a start. I went to a tournament in Newbury last year and there were fewer than 10 kids in a room of more than 250 players. And that's a good thing: Warhammer is not, as you know, a simple game. And playing with adults makes for a better match. Dirty army lists excluded, obv.

And FYI: I don't play. I just put up with it.

SPACE MARINES!

I have some chaos marines I never got around to painting. Probably just as well, considering the colours my Dawn Of War army tends to be...

Somewhere (Chris' games room, I suspect) I have some figures I bought when I started roleplaying back in about 1984. In fact, they were by Citadel, before their figures became big and spiky. Before Warhammer, even.

Some of Chris' figures are even older.

It isn't a macro because it doesn't say "OH HAI, I HAZ A GUN" or something daft like that.

I was looking at macro lenses last night. The 105mm f2.8 micro Nikko VR is so bloody tempting in every way except the price.

It's sad about his gun being all droopy.

well, he is getting a bit old.

I noticed that after I'd taken the photos. He's now back to his usual perky self.
