well, I fixed my bike. Picked up a new gear cable yesterday on the offchance it was that. Then spent a merry hour removing bits of bike, scrubbing vigorously with degreaser and reassembling them.

Gears now work, perfectly.

It reminded me how much I love tinkering with bikes. Looking forward to getting out on it too - it's been far too long since I last went cycling.

lol. I must confess that I had scoped out some new wheels, *just* in case it looked like I couldn't fix it up.

However, my bike repair skills didn't fail me. Went out for a ride tonight for about 6 miles or so, finishing off with a lakeside track through a billion midges. But the sun looked spectacular over the lake, and the swans were out with their little ones. And I passed a guy out walking with his girl, and as I cycled past he turned to her and said 'you know, we should get our bikes sorted out'

heh. I love tinkering with bikes, though I *must* get some degreaser stuff - the oil gets everywhere!
