My TiVO box provides the option to extend the recording time beyond the normal schedule time. If your DVR provides that option, that would be your solution, and a way to reduce the SADness in your lives.
I'll have to check it out - if you set it to record a specific time it does that quite happily. If you set to record a specific programme using the guide it's fine, 99% of the time.
Seems that monday's episodes of The Wire come up 5 minutes short, and occasionally we get it 'forgetting' to record something.
i'm wondering if the signal strength has dropped somehow, so it's not getting the correct data through the guide to either start or finish properly. K's mum has noticed the same thing happening on hers.
My Freeview+ box used to do that - record short so I'd miss the end of something. A friend showed me the menu option for recording 3 minutes before and after the times scheduled in the guide and I've not had the problem since.
It still loses the occasional recording though - mostly of things with a series link.
Another workaround is to record the following program too, unless the box knows you're trying to be clever and starts the next recording at precisely the correct time.
Sky+ boxes usually have a generous 3 minutes either side, unless it needs to switch both receivers to other channels.
