question for the LJ hiveMind

K's shiny new iPod nano turned up today ready for her birthday. She's getting a bunch of iTunes vouchers too from various people.

Lucky girl.

My question is this - she doesn't have an iTunes account yet - should we (could we) set up her iPod to *my* account, thereby allowing her to watch the video content I've bought and listen to my audiobooks I got from Audible?

I'm going to get one myself at some point, so would need access to all my stuff anyway - can you have two ipods on one iTunes account?

Advice onna postcard please.

Yes you can! Elaby and I share one account and it seems to work quite well.

It works great, we both just use the same login and password and we still can maintain separate iTunes libraries and playlists. If one of us buys a song that the other wants you just have to copy it to a flashdrive or some such device and put it on the other's computer.

ah, we only have the one computer, which is what made me think of just having the one account. :-)

Even better, you won't have to transfer files. Should work great!

Yep, you can authorise a couple of players and up to 5 computers on one account I think.

I knew you could do five computers, wasn't sure about the players. Ta!

I don't think there's any limit to the number of iPods you're allowed on one account. I know you're limited to 4 PCs, but I don't think this applies to iPods.

Don't know about two ipods on one account... Offhand, it should work, but merging your collections under the same account seems like a good idea :D

That said, I really have no problem with the *idea* of paying for digital media, as long as there aren't DRM limitations, and that I think the artist is actually getting a reasonable cut. Don't mean to politicize your otherwise completely innocuous post/question =)

I've only bought a couple of things from iTunes - the DRM annoys me. Emusic/amazon are DRM free so I can listen to the music I've paid for however I damn well please, which is how it should be.

I've bought *some* content from iTunes. I know K will buy more than me though.

I tend to buy my music either through amazon's new mp3 store or my emusic account.

indeed. And I've had an audible.com subscription for ages which is tied to my apple account on iTunes, so if I use it again, she wouldn't be able to listen to any of the audiobooks I've downloaded.

DRM is stupid.
