I was going to suggest that that's what you did. But I'm not really a camera geek. I do mean to dust off my old SLR (film) camera and remind myself why I like taking photos...

I did! Sorry it's taken a while to respond, stuff going on here, and work has been very busy.

Still here, but I'm having what is commonly termed a "fecking busy week" - not even had time to write any more of my Spain posts, let alone my "what I did at the weekend" or my birfday!

Anyway, the 50-200 is a fine lens, but iirc it has a fairly long minimum focus distance; it's not a portrait lens.

I've played with the 50-200 lens - K's dad got one when he got his D60, so I know what I'd be getting. Portrait stuff I'd tend more towards my 50mm f/1.8 anyway.

When I bought my lens it was essentially on the basis that them man told me "you want this one" And he had been recommended by someone who also knows.
I like my decisions easy like that :-)
