As you may know, I work for the CCCS (the Consumer Credit Counselling Service).

Today at work we're posting hourly updates of the number of calls we receive, and the total debt reported, as it happens. The numbers are staggering. Remember, this is just one day.

Current status:
9:10am: The first figures are through, with 71 calls from people with money worries, discussing £2,836,939 debt. This equates to around £40,000 debt reported in each call.

update: 10am - 164 calls from people with money worries, discussing £12,406,015 debt

Follow the running total on our blog, or on Twitter with the hashtag #debtday, or follow @moneyaware

Holy crap!

We went through CCCS here in the US to take care of our debt (from taxes and a business we used to have) years ago and we paid off $25K in 4.5 years. It was the best financial decision we made to go with CCCS. We were able to buy our house debt free when we were finished with CCCS. The only thing we have now is our mortgage and our van payment (which will be done in June).
