As you may know, I work for the CCCS (the Consumer Credit Counselling Service).

Today the CCCS (the Consumer Credit Counselling Service) are posting hourly updates of the number of calls they receive, and the total debt reported, as it happens. The numbers are staggering. Remember, this is just one day.

Current status:
9:10am: The first figures are through, with 71 calls from people with money worries, discussing £2,836,939 debt. This equates to around £40,000 debt reported in each call.

Follow the running total on our blog, or on Twitter with the hashtag #debtday, or follow @moneyaware

Those are terrifying numbers. It's good that it's all getting publicised and talked about, as something needs to be done to sort out the mess.

as of 11am, we're up to 303 calls and £22,088,145 debt discussed. This means the average caller has around £72,000 worth of debt.

That said, it also includes mortgages. Still scary though.
