le Tour 2014

A few photos from earlier this evening, at the announcement of the route of the two Yorkshire stages of le Tour de France 2014.

It was *cold*. I stood in the snow and sub-zero temperatures for 2 hours and loved it all. I'm *that* excited about le Tour hitting my home county. Looking forward to riding parts of the route when the weather warms up too!

Now....I guess in terms of the cycling world I essentially live under a rock...but I was not aware that the Tour route moves around....?

It does! Every other year it starts somewhere other than France - generally somewhere on the border as there are rules about how long it takes the cyclists to get from the end of a stage to the next - if it's too long it counts as a rest day, which they don't have early on. There were concerns about it being in Yorkshire, but we're getting two stages (Leeds > Harrogate, the long way round, and York > Sheffield), then a third stage from Cambridge > London. From there it's a quick Eurostar/ferry over to France and le Tour begins proper.

I'm already planning how I'm going to break up the two yorkshire stages so I can say i've ridden them (albeit in more than two chunks!). Very very excited ;-)
