boilerman has been, diagnosed problem, and gone to get the spare part he needs.

Hope it's fixed soon, cos it's chuffin' freezing in this house.

however, if he *does* get it fixed soon, I can do my run to the tip, take back the new kettle I bought yesterday (too shiny, of all things) and get back mid-morning. Then spend the rest of the day doing NOTHING.

BWAAHAHAHAHAH

no, I haven't started my job list yet.

For various reasons*, I was attempting to find a set of precision screwdrivers online, so I went to diy.com (B&Q) and got these:

B&Q 6 Piece Precision Slotted Screwdriver Set

what amuses me most is the related product it throws up - a Stanley graphite club hammer. Perfect accessory for a precision screwdriver set, I'd say.

I suppose it's so that when you discover you can't fix the thing you were disassembling, you have a large hammer to hand to try repair method B.

*ok, ok, my brother was having problems finding what he was looking for despite typing 'precision screwdrivers' into google. I decided that B&Q seemed like a good bet, and was right. Amazon also have them. My brother's internet search-fu is weak.

Post! Yay!

today we have (ignoring the bills) a parcel for K, a Starbucks voucher for a free dark cherry mocha (yum!), and a copy of A.A. Milne's The Red House Mystery, courtesy of the Amazon Vine thingy.

woo! free coffee *and* free books! AND a day off.

Hmm. Maybe today *isn't* monday after all?

tip run: done
kettle exchanged: done
lunch: done

right. Time to check that I have all the tunez on my wrrk laptop copied over to my home collection, then check that *that* collection is in one place, instead of across three different drives, as it is now.

Fun, fun fun.

Well I spent much of this afternoon thrashing through Call of Duty 4 which was fun, if remarkably tiring.

Certain bits were also a bit *too* engaging. Sniper missions are ace but really take it out of you...

some great photos from Jeff Bridges on the set of Iron Man.

Someone needs to have a word with his Dudeness about user-friendly website design though.

I know I could just google this, but I like talking to you guys about tech stuff.

situation is this: I have an external HD plugged into my new 'puter. When I power up the puter, the HD comes on. For reasons best known to me, the external drive is mounted under the desk.

Is there such a thing as a switched USB cable, so I can effectively disconnect the USB lead to the external drive, without reaching around the back of the 'puter and pulling the plug?

Or a software alternative? Something with button to connect/disconnect a drive?
